Greetings Fellow Spiritualists,
This coming Sunday, March 2nd is your annual chance to have direct input in how the church is run. Several board positions are open, so considering running for election. If that is not your cup of tea, please come and give us your input by voting.
You must be a current member of the First Spiritualist Church of Austin to vote. That means you have paid your $10 membership fee this year and your application was approved by the board.
We will be voting on several positions. One position, Trustee is open because Barbara Anderson completed her 3 year term and is not seeking re-election. The Recording Secretary position is open because it was vacated at the end of the year.
The other positions we will vote on are positions that were vacated and filled by appointment by the board during the year. Our by-laws require that these appointed positions be opened for election during our annual meeting. That means anyone can run against these current appointees. The position of President (Anne Birlin) & Vice President (Tommy Kile) were elected last year and therefore have two more years of their term left.
If you are interested in what the duties are for each position, please refer to the bottom of this document. If you are interested in running, you should know that the board meets between 6 & 12 times a year, usually immediately after church for 1 -2 hours. Board members are also required by by-law to maintain a reasonable level of church attendance to retain their board positions.
So the board positions open for election include:
Trustee I
Trustee II (2007 appointee - Don Young)
Recording Secretary
Corresponding Secretary ( 2007 appointee - Eana LaFont)
Treasurer (2007 appointee - Peter Berg)

CORRESPONDING SECRETARY:

3. Address matters of membership transfers.
TREASURER:
1. Act as custodian of all funds, bonds, notes, securities and other instruments and documentation of Church property.
2. Establish and maintain all banking and investment accounts. All such accounts will require two board-member signatures, which signatory parties will be determined from time to time by resolution of the Board.

4. Pay all debts of the Church as directed by the Board of Trustees.
5. Furnish a statement of accounts at each meeting of the Board of Trustees.
